Just the Fact 4

Concept Poster

By Jane Sun on June, 2017

A nested data visualisation comparing two related but rarely connected facts: the volume of Marshmallow Peeps consumed over Easter, and the number of pigs that die in their production. Both figures are large enough to be cognitively abstract, so the design grounds them against a familiar reference — daily pork consumption in Australia — to make the scale tangible.

Pigs and Peeps are rendered as repeating calendar units, allowing the reader to compare daily and seasonal volumes side by side. The colour palette — bright yellow against dark blue — was chosen deliberately: a cheerful holiday hue in tension with a sobering environmental fact. The layout was rotated 90 degrees from the first draft so the headline reads cleanly across the top.
